FutureLearn, I'm back

Trying to catch up all on-line courses I've got involved thank to FutureLearn. Despite the fact that now I do lack time to do things which stand apart my study at the university. But I definitely find this change of activity quite relaxing. Moreover, I can expand my general knowledge about the world and sometimes even go deeper into the fields which recently have drawn my attention. I enjoy idle and at the same time real takls which tutors provide to learners. A lot of interesting things turn up during each course. That's why I consider them time worthy.

For the last two days I've covered up a bit more than two weeks of "Exploring English: Shakespeare". Still 1 week left. I hope I will go on as there are several amazing courses I am really interesting in and I'm not going to give up.

But stick to the point, I still gonna give a feedback or rather a summary on the Shakespeare course to highlight things which appeared to be new for me, which really excited me.

But at the momemt I'm starting with some expressions I'd like to remember, which were introduced in Shakespeare's plays:

- POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE

we can say that when some grand ceremony takes place and it draws a lot of attention.

It's all about pomp and circumstance.
Pomp and circunstance accompainy his actions.
The ceremony took place with all possible pomp and circumstance.

- TO BE-ALL AND END-ALL

when we speak about smth very important for us.

For me their decision is the be-all and end-all.
Being rich is not the be-all and end-all for her.
Don't think that you are the be-all and end-all for him.

- THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER

that means that one can do whatever the want to do.

Kneel! The world is my oyster!
It's not up to you to decide, tho world is my oyster.
He behaves like the world is his oyster.

- A NIGHT OWL

about a person who keeps busy at night while others are sleeping.

I'm kinda of a night owl.
Hey, Night owl, get a rest!
She prefers working all hight long. What a night owl she should be!

- TO BREAK THE ICE

to make communication between people go easier, create friendly and relaxing air.

It was he who broke the ice at yesterday's meeting.

- TO TEMPT FATE

to do smth at one's own risk, to do smth dangerous or mad, smth you can be punished for, but that can be worth doing, sometimes.

- A FATE WORSE THAN DEATH

when smth really terrifying can happen, and its better to die than to face it.

to define smb's/one's future by doing this or that.

This phone call had definitely sealed het fate.
Whether he comes or not my fate has already sealed.
