Jenkins additionally says that in the case of the difficult consonant ‘th’, it is OK to use the consonants [t] or [f] (e.g. to say [tɪnk] or [fɪnk] for ‘think’) because this does not influence understandability (this is supported by Detering 2013: 39). You could therefore retain this pronunciation in your English accent. However, Jenkins recommends to not substitute /s/ (e.g. to say [sɪnk] for ‘think’) for intelligibility reasons. Note also that Van Den Doel (2006: 160-169) has found that some people may express a unfavourable attitude to a different pronunciation of ‘th’; this finding has been supported by Beinhoff (2009: 257).
